Eating Hawaiian at Ahi Poké

Eating Hawaiian at Ahi Poké

Can you ever say no to food? No, of course not! Food is too good! Food is life. At least my life. I don’t know about you guys. Anyway, moving on. A few weeks ago, Ahi Poke, a London-based restaurant got in touch with me. They wanted me to come review their restaurant. After having a look at their Instagram to see what kind of food they were doing, I could only say yes. First because, well, as I said, food is life. Second, because their food pictures looked just so good! And so I went last weekend with a friend.

Here is how it went.

But first, what is Ahi Poke? A restaurant serving Hawaiian food with a California vibe. The fish is responsibly and sustainably caught. They work closely with their supplier to make sure all fruits and veggies are top quality and freshness. And their packaging is 100% biodegradable. Looks like they are getting a top mark! They have three restaurants in London and I went to the one in Fitzrovia.

How it work is simple. You can either chose a pre-made bowl or pick the ingredients yourself. I went in between choosing the Heat Wave Bowl (Quinoa, Salmon, Smashed Yuzu Avocado, Red Onion,Kimchee Cucumber, Coriander) but swapping Quinoa for rice. And also got dessert (my first time trying shia pudding) and a drink.

All I have to say is that it was absolutely delicious. I loved the combination of salmon and avocado. Everything blended perfectly together and it was super easy to eat. The bowl was quite filling and I really felt when I had reach satiety. Although, to quote my friend who went with me,

I am full but not full as in I need to take a nap to digest.

The kind of sensation we all want. Being full is cool, being sleepy for hours after a heavy meal, no. It was a filling meal but not heavy on the stomach. And at the same time,

I can feel the healthiness.

Quoting my friend again here. It felt fresh, it felt light, it felt healthy. You got it, eating at Ahi Poké was a cool experience. I have to admit the shia pudding did not convince me but it is probably more about personal tastes than anything else.

Ahi Poke’s mission is to bring traditional and delicious Hawaiian food to the streets of London.

Well, mission accomplished.

I actually traveled to Hawaii over the summer and was quite disappointed by their lack of variety in food, however whatever little they did have (mostly seafood) was AMAZING especially if you went to the right restaurant. I did get a bit tired of the fish after a while though haha!! 🙂

I’ve never tried Hawaiian Food before, but I’m always up for trying new cuisines! It’s a shame that I don’t think I have any Hawaiian restaurants near me, but I’ll bear it in mind if I’m ever in London.

I’ve heard about poke but not this place place before. I love how your described the food. I like that it’s filling but also very good for you. Restaurants that are all about the quality of ingredients they use and the food they serve are always worth it.

I’m not gonna lie, if someone asked me what Hawaiian food consisted of, I’d have absolutely no idea but now that I’ve seen this post, I definitely need to try it! Feeling the healthiness oozing from your meal is a massive winner, nothing makes me happier! I hate heavy meals that weigh you down so next time I’m in London, I’m hitting this place up!

Looks and sounds delish! I would definitely look the place up if we came to london. We don’t seem to have much variety in our restaurants where I live. That food looked loved, lovingly made and to be lovingly enjoyed! The sort of food you want to put in your belly!!!! Lovely!

  43. January 30, 2018 / 7:44 pm

I’ve never heard of this restaurant before! I’m a really fussy eater so it’s good that you can choose your own ingredients or swap things if you choose a pre-made bowl else I probably wouldn’t like anything! It looks lovely though, just wish I liked half the stuff in it!
