How To Incorporate Gingham Into Your Wardrobe

How To Incorporate Gingham Into Your Wardrobe

Miranda Priesley was mocking flowers for not being groundbreaking for spring. What about gingham then? Groundbreaking enough? I cannot name one brand that hasn’t jumped on the trend or one blogger who hasn’t been wearing it. We’ve seen it everywhere on the runways. It has been major this spring and will still be during summer. At least, I hope. Because it’s a trend I really like. Although I had never paid much attention to it until really recently.

I always had some doubts about the print though. It looks quite preppy. Maybe too much? I am not Alexa Chung and I don’t have a preppy style. So how do I style it? Because it kinda looks super nice. A fresher alternative to floral. Also, as classic as polka dots and stripes. Definitely something to adopt and keep then. I guess, you can just mix it with another massive trend of spring summer 2017: the bardot trend.

Off the shoulder bardot trend are just so in this season too. And because you don’t want to look like a catalog, you can hit two birds with one stone: a gingham bardot top. And to stand out from the crowd, forget the black and white gingham and go for the pink and white with this adorable (and super cheap) top from boohoo.

Just finish the look with a pair of trousers (or shorts, depends what you like best) and the ultimate classic: a denim jacket. If you’re looking for one, do not worry, we thought about it. Just have look at our denim jacket edit. No outfit would be complete without the proper shoes. I bought these graphic wedges in 2013 and I have been wearing them since then. I hope they never break.

I am never fussed with accessories but I always enjoy a good watch. Although, being left handed, it always makes it harder for me. Daniel Wellington sent me the watch by the way. Get 15% off on their website with discount code DWKIRSTY15. Hope you love the outfit.

I hope you liked this post.

This is such an insightful post! Well said and written 👏👏

  2. August 9, 2017 / 7:13 pm

I think it depends on how it’s said. With the email, I think if he explained that he’s from that country and people are sensitive out there that would be fine, but if phrased in the wrong way and without that knowledge it could easily have come across as patronizing. The same with standing up for yourself when someone criticizes your work, it’s about handling it in the right way.

    • August 16, 2017 / 11:07 pm

I love those cute little shoes and my daughter would love the top! Great choices!

  3. August 9, 2017 / 7:17 pm

A very interesting topic and something I’m not sure I’d be able to explain either. I know for me I always word things in the nicest way almost like the other person suggested it so I don’t come across rude and of course a load of please and thank yous usually seems to be ok. It’s not good that people judge someone on an accent though and I guess with time people will get to know what kind of person you are xx

  4. August 9, 2017 / 7:19 pm

beautiful outfit pics! It’s a tricky situation I suppose, I can totally understand where your friend was coming from, he was just trying to be helpful! Not arrogant in the slightest, it’s just a shame it wasn’t interpreted that way.

  5. August 9, 2017 / 7:20 pm

Hmm, it doesn’t sound like your friend was being rude at all, surely he was just trying to be helpful?!
    Gorgeous outfit and watch!
    Hels xx

  6. August 9, 2017 / 7:30 pm

I completely understand this. I’m someone who just dislikes messaging or emailing because anything can be misinterpreted when written down I think. That’s why I prefer phone calls or in person conversations. It does sound like a difficult situation.

  7. August 9, 2017 / 7:32 pm

Aw I totally get you it’s hard to know what’s right and wrong in a situation like this ❤ as hard as it is you have to stand up and be brave if they can slate your work you can just as easily defend it!
And I love the outfit it really suits you ⭐️

  8. August 9, 2017 / 7:37 pm

Especially online I think we really have to be careful on what we say and how we say it – what you mean can totally be misinterpreted for something completely different. But in your case I know how hard it is when someone’s questioning your work and you don’t know what to say back – often I just stay silent too knowing I’ll just end up sounding snarky if I try to defend myself. I struggle with this myself so sorry I don’t have tips! Im going back to this article later on though to see if others have any advice x

This post was quite interesting. I think words matter and we should be careful on how we say things, ’cause you don’t know how the other person will react, especially if it’s something written in a text or an email, as people can misinterpret things.

P.S: I really like your outfit and Daniel Wellington’s watches are SO beautiful!

  11. August 9, 2017 / 8:35 pm

This is such an interesting topic. So many people feel like they can’t speak openly due to people thinking their arrogant so it’s really nice to see people speaking openly about it! I often stay silent too knowing I’ll probably just end up trying to defend myself. I struggle with tips myself so thank you for sharing this post and offering them as I appreciate it, I apologise I don’t have any in return. I’ll defiantly keep coming back to this post! Tons of love gorgeous.

When I clicked this post I wasn’t expecting to be so blown away by this but I am – I agree you need to be careful how you say things online because of how they come across. I absolutely love the gingham top it’s beautiful – I love how you’ve styled it and the watch is beautiful x

I absolutely love your outfit! Those shoes especially are GORGEOUS! I actually haven’t got on that trend yet! I’m a more stripes than gingham girl. I really love the pink gingham combo though. Dying to get a DW watch, they’re so classic!

I love everything prints. Gingham + stripes are my fav combo. When ruffles come in gingham, the tops/dresses have an extra adorable look. You look great btw.

  49. August 16, 2017 / 4:57 pm

I love how you styled this gingham top! I also at the beginning wasn’t convinced about this preppy print mainly because my boyfriend told me I looked like a picnic haha but then I grew fond of it, I love it so much I have many pieces now.

  50. August 16, 2017 / 5:13 pm

Ha! The only thing I know how to do with my wardrobe is….. Wear yoga clothing! LMFAO

  52. August 16, 2017 / 10:34 pm

What a beautiful off-the-shoulder top! Just my colors and just my style. I need to shop for more tops like these before I can no longer find them and the stores are flooded with fall fashions. I’m a spring/summer girl!

I live in band tshirts and sweat pants so I don’t really understand the whole fashion movement, but I’d totally wear that. In black. Definitely black.

  60. August 17, 2017 / 2:50 pm

I am really not a fashionable one and I have never wear any gingham yet. I am the type of person who wears what is comfortable on me and I don’t like buying clothes just because of the trend. Your outfit looks good on you. I hope I can be fashionable too.

  61. August 17, 2017 / 6:58 pm

I loved your outfit and the way you have styled it! Your wedges are so super cute!

I adore your outfit. Off the shoulder tops and puffy sleeves are totally in this summer.

  65. August 18, 2017 / 8:58 am

Your entire outfit is adorable ! I love these heels and watch you wearing

  67. August 19, 2017 / 10:52 pm

Omg how cute is your gingham off the shoulder top! Gingham can be tricky to style, but I love the jacket you paired it on…it helps structure it and adds a bit of casual flare.

  68. August 20, 2017 / 2:57 am

I’ve ALWAYS loved gingham, for male and female. Every spring/summer, I always make a new gingham purchase. You just can’t go wrong with it!
