Hi lovelies and welcome back! This is a special time of the year, a new year to be more specific, so we thought we would post a special blogpost for you 🙂 Follow us!
A New Year Begins
As you know last night we said goodbye to 2016 and welcomed 2017! So instead of giving you some hair or makeup tips, or the last minute makeup idea, we have decided to do a little round up of 2016 and how we spent the last day of 2016 (spoiler: yes it’s ok to not want to go out or not wanting to go to a nightclub!)
2016 was probably one of the most important years of our lives. Of course, there are many other like the year we finished high school and started uni, the year we turned 18 and officially became an adult, and obviously there are more to come like the year we’ll get married or have our first child. But at the moment 2016 was probably the scariest of all. Indeed, this year we said bye bye to school and hello to real adulthood and the real world, the savage one. The year you need to spread your wings, find a job and survive.
We have both taken different paths and are in different positions at the moment. Corinne graduated from the University of Edinburgh where she completed a second master’s degree (as well as finding love) and is now in Glasgow following a graduate program and praying to find her first job ASAP (if anyone works in finance and hiring, please send an email 😀). On the other hand Kirsty graduated from the University of Rouen (France) and kind of just went with the flow. This is not how she imagined her first steps into the real world would be but she is not at all regretting this new adventure. After a month of wondering what the hell she was going to do with her life, and doing a list of what she knew she didn’t want to do (a.k.a work in Paris, over her dead body!) she found a very badly paid job in a primary school as a teacher’s assistant (I basically help teacher’s on art projects, do photocopies, paperwork and give English lessons) and therefor still lives with her parents. This is supposed to be temporary though as the plan is to just put money aside to move back to the UK next year and finally find a job in her field (marketing, if anybody is looking for a marketing manager 😀).
So yes, basically we haven’t become rich yet but we are in happy places and more than welcoming 2017 and praying it brings us money, men and glory! No just kidding, a well paid job and happiness will be enough (even if money, men and glory sounded good…).
How To Spend the Last Day of the Year
There are many ways to spend the last day of the year, and they are all ok! If there is something we learnt about ourselves in 2016 is that staying home on a Saturday night instead of going clubbing is great. Yep you read us well! When you think about it, why go out in an outfit that is not comfortable, with shoes that make your feet soar and cold, to drink too much and be a wreck the next day when you could stay home, have a lovely meal with people you enjoy the company of, all cosy in front of a nice film?
So this year Corinne spent New Year’s Eve with her boyfriend and his friends, and basically went home “early”. No clubbing, no binge drinking and not a late night. Kirsty on the other hand couldn’t be bothered to plan something and after several years of partying on New Year’s Eve she just wanted to stay home with her family, eat a takeaway pizza with some champagne in front of a film. And that was just fine! Just doing what you want to do for the last day of the year is the best thing you can do!
Happy New Year to you all, we hope you will have a wonderful year 🙂
How about you? What are your plans for tonight?
See you soon, love
Corinne & Kirsty
