The Perfect Afternoon Picnic

The sun may have left us prematurely, we are still stuck in summer mode.. We still want to do all the things summer allows us to do, and most of all enjoying a nice picnic outside. As you may have gathered we love food. Any kind. We love going out to restaurants, ordering takeaways, trying new recipes, finding excuses to brunch with friends, organize a barbecue or just enjoy a picnic on the grass. So we thought you might like it if we shared with you what our favourite picnic foods are šŸ™‚

What You Need for the Perfect Picnic

If we love cakes in all shapes or forms, with think that they are better eaten with a nice cup of tea or hot chocolate. So not very picnic appropriate. Our NĀ°1 item on our list while putting a picnic together is fruit. They are yummy, easy to transport and to eat! Here we went for melon, blueberries, strawberries, nectarines, gooseberries & grappes. Obviously the best thing to associate fruit with is yogurt. Here we were in Corinne’s garden to it was easy for us to transport it in a dish, but if you are far from home by individual pots and it will be as easy šŸ™‚

Because we have such a sweet-tooth we had to add a brioche on the list, along with a pot of homemade blackberry jelly (made by Corinne’s mum, so so yummy). We also added a few biscuits: some apricot Lunettes (just because we love biscuits).

As for drinks we went for milk (because it’s the best thing with biscuits & brioche!) & homemade virgin mojitos. To stay on the fresh and fruity side.

Homemade Picnic Virgin Mojitos

Serves 2

  • 2 glasses of Lemonade
  • 1 lime
  • 10 mint leaves
  • Crushed ice cubes

This is the most easy cocktail ever: just cut your limes in quartes, place 2 quartes in each glass, add 5 leaves in each glass, the ice and top up with lemonade. Enjoy!

If you don’t like fizzy drinks, mint or limes you might want to try our homemade iced-tea recipe for your next picnic or barbecue!

Do you like going out for a picnic during summer? What is your favorite food?

See you soon, love

How gorgeous and Instagram-perfect does your picnic look?! And you had a little kitty come to visit as well, how sweet! Virgin mojitos are the ideal option for enjoying that cocktail feel without being drunk mid afternoon haha! Anything with lemonade and mint is top notch in my book! Loving all your healthy fruit as well, tropical fruits are my favourite thing about summer! Fab post as always!

  6. September 10, 2017 / 7:12 pm

Oh I do love summer berries and melon, but that loaf of bread looks so inviting. So maybe I would have that for the main dipped in oil and berries for dessert šŸ˜Š.

    • September 27, 2017 / 9:50 am

The bread is actually brioche, so sweet, don’t know what it would taste like with oil ^^ x

  7. September 10, 2017 / 7:13 pm

Brioche is my favourite! I was gutted when I became dairy and gluten intolerant and couldntvhave it anyone, thankfully I’ve found a dairy and gluten free version that’s almost as nice! Thy fruit salad looks so yummy! I’ll have to give those virgin mojitos a go!

Oooh this sounds like such a yummy picnic! I’m sad that I missed out on doing one this year, but the weather was so temperamental that it was impossible to plan so I opted for going out for afternoon tea instead. Next year I’d like to make more of an effort to do this!

I’m also loving the sound of the homemade picnic mojitos…

  10. September 10, 2017 / 7:34 pm
