Round-up of Corinne’s First Month in Manchester

Round-up of Corinne’s First Month in Manchester

On the 24th of March, I moved to Manchester. After living in Glasgow for six months and staying in Edinburgh for a month. The reason why I moved is the simplest of all: a new job. Three hours and a half in the train, and I was in Manchester. Five boxes sent to my new flat and I was ready to settle in. A new bike and I was ready to ride throughout the city. So, how have I been doing since?

1. Moving there
After one year in Edinburgh, I moved to Glasgow for a grad scheme. It didn’t work out. My confidence took a hit. I felt miserable, like it would never stop and that I was incapable of anything. It was a failure, I have accepted it and learnt few lessons. Time to move on and start fresh. Turns out Manchester was my destination. Moving there was so easy. I got a flat in two days, after scrolling through ads and arranging a Skype viewing with an agency. I took a train, shipped my boxes to the flat, and here I was, ready to start an new adventure. After getting a back, I was fully ready and so genuinely happy.

2. Social media
You have no ideas how high was my level of stress in my previous job. Thus, I was not in the mood for social media. After I left Glasgow, I lived one month in Edinburgh with my boyfriend. Sure I was feeling better but I didn’t have any props for pictures. Everything was packed in boxes. As a result, my Instagram was not as nice as it used to be. I couldn’t be bothered with a theme and consistency. I was also losing interest. As I moved to Manchester and settled down, I visited the city and got my confidence back. I started to get back to Instagram. My feed is more consistent now. The pictures are nicer and I am overall happier. You can always have a look if you fancy.

3. Manchester
Manchester is quite a big city. Not that I am not used to it – I lived in London after all – but still. In Edinburgh, everything is within walking distance. Not in Manchester. My work is in the Northern Quarter which is basically in the city center. This is a really young, relaxed and trendy area. I haven’t seen much of the city yet but I really like what I saw. The food scene is amazing. There are so many restaurants, pubs and café. A lot of parks, rivers and museums too. The Museums of Manchester is amazing! There is a vivarium inside, so cool. The city is also bike-friendly with bike lanes pretty much everywhere. I bike all the time so it’s perfect for me. The shopping is also great!

4. My relationship
All my friends know my opinion on long-distance relationships: never ever. Well, people may change sometimes. Or at least their opinion does. Yes, indeed. Astonishing, isn’t it? Each relationship is different. And so is the way you feel towards it. This relationship was too important for me. Hence, I went all out on the long-distance thing. This is obviously not an ideal situation. I am in Manchester, he is in Edinburgh. But it is working out for now and I am supper happy. Each time I think of him and seeing him, I am thrilled. I love going back to Edinburgh at the weekend and I really enjoy exploring Manchester with him. So all good on that front.

5. My work
After a catastrophic experience with a grad scheme in a finance and IT company, I got a job at Boohoo. Yes, you read well, Boohoo. I am in charge of social media for France and I am slowly settling in. I love it so far. The people are really helpful and nice. I know I can count on people. They don’t expect me to know everything from day one. If I do, amazing, if I don’t, I still need to learn, that’s okay. I really like the culture of the company. Working for a company that is expanding so fast is thrilling and knowing I may contribute to this is an amazing feeling. Of course one month on the job probably isn’t enough to be able to form an opinion but I have a really good feeling just now.

Another great news is that Kirsty is looking for a job there and our duo may reunite really soon. How exciting is that? I can’t wait to explore more of the city and discover amazing places to go.

Have you already been to Manchester? Maybe you even live here. How do you find it? Is it a city would visit or live? Please, tell me everything!

I hope you liked this post. Thanks for reading.

See you soon.

Very interesting read! So glad you found Manchester to be a great fit so far. Honestly, SO cool that you work for Boohoo girl! Can you get me in? 😉 lol. I’d love to work for them honestly! How great. Also, doing the long distance thing myself. My boyfriend is in the army and lives in Miami, FL. I’m in Denver, CO. It’s been a struggle but we make it work! I think if you love eachother enough, things will fall into place! Wish you the best of luck and success!

  10. April 26, 2017 / 8:07 pm

Sound like you’re doing well there already! I’ve been to Manchester quite often and I like it. And congratulations for getting a job at Boohoo too! I wish you all the best for everything that you’d be handling in the future x Ain

  11. April 26, 2017 / 8:13 pm

Oh wow that seems like such a quick move – 2 days! Also congrats on getting a job in Manchester!

In terms of Social Media – I so feel you with the losing interest. There are times where I have everything planned and there are times where it seems as though I’ve just hibernated for a week but lately I think I somewhat have been posting more on the regular on Instagram!

Edinburgh sounds like a nice place to live – everything within walking distance, I’d be getting so much exercise! Also that’s amazing that Manchester is bike-friendly, more environmentally friendly to take a bike than a car and you get some exercise out of it too!

Also wish Kristy good luck on getting a job in Manchester – hopefully you’ll be reunited soon 🙂

  12. April 26, 2017 / 8:32 pm

Congratulations on the new job, it sounds fantastic! Manchester is a city I’ve always wanted to visit – it looks very intriguing! I hope Manchester all works out for you!

  28. April 28, 2017 / 10:07 am

Congrats on the new job, and the move obviously too. I’ve been there, moved to London for 2 years and it just did not work out. BUT! Sometimes it’s the things that don’t work out that shape us to be the people we need to be. We need knocks, otherwise we’d never learn to get back up.
