Guest Post – Summer Makeup and Cosmetics

Guest Post – Summer Makeup and Cosmetics

With winter being gone, and spring in its farewell phase, along with chunky sweaters and heavy coats, the time has come to renounce the heavy coats of full-coverage foundations, dark lip and overdone eyes. A new season is here, and like every year, the runways bring about an abundance of inspiration. So, without further ado, here are the summer essentials that should be gracing your makeup case as well as those gorgeous faces. Brace yourselves, summer is coming.

The last night’s remains

This look was made iconic by no other than the legendary Kate Moss, and it is back, with a slight twist. The look we are referring to is the one that seems like it was rocked the night before and didn’t bother to remove your makeup before going to bed. The key ingredients for achieving it are a black liner and a smidge of silver eyeshadow. Apply the shadow on your upper lid using just your fingers to avoid that precise and overdone effect. Add the lines on both the upper and lower lash line and use a smudger (or a Q-tip) to get for that ‘rolled out of bed and fabulous’ look. Keep the rest of the face clean (little or no foundation) and just a touch of lip balm.

‘I’m not wearing any makeup’

This makeup technique is so amazing, and it has been standing the test of time summer after summer. A few more years and it will become the iconic makeup equivalent of a Chanel suit. All the gals out there know that it takes a number of products to achieve this next-to-nothing look, but the key is to use a bit of every one of them. The face should look dewy and fresh – the epitome of summer. To get that summer glow (with minimal coverage of course), it is best to use a product such as the Nude By Nature BB Sheer Glow BB Cream; it’s easy to apply, doesn’t clog the pores, it’s not cakey and gives you that luminous quality of a true girl of summer. After that, add a hint of bronzer, just enough to get in that summer mood, and top it off with pearly beige eyeshadow, (you can use the Naked 2 palette), to open the eyes and a quick touch of your most flattering nude lipstick shade. Five minutes, and you are not good, but stunning to go.

The ‘just kissed’ lips

With the season being all about nudes and emphasizing one prominent feature, it is completely expected (and desired) that certain focus will be placed on the lips. Unlike the sharp lines and precisely drawn lip trend that has been popping all over Instagram, this year is all about that careless lip that looks like you’ve just engaged in some serious lip-locking. For this one, you can either go hunting for that perfect shade of red lip stain, or use the lipstick you already own and using your fingers simply blot on the lips. Most of the color should be concentrated on center of the mouth. This will also give the illusion of a fuller lip. Use the same lipstick on your cheeks, (lip and cheek color-matching is totally in) to get that youthful and fresh-looking skin. In case you didn’t know, contouring is out and the fresh-face maker (the blush) is back in style. Brush your brows and fill them in a tad, curl your lashes and hold the mascara. French girl style – with a twist.

Wing it

For all those who love their eyeliner on fleek, and are good at executing this tricky makeup technique, rejoice – the eyeliner will live for yet another season. However, it will not be accompanied by glitter, multitude of eyeshadow shades and mauve lips. The goal is to emphasize the eye while keeping the rest of the face clean and natural. Just a hint of a pale rosy lipstick, a touch of blush and some nude eyeshadow will suffice.

I love the idea of the blotted lip look. I’m much more inclined to go for something like that over a bright color which often looks crazy on my pale skin.

These are great little makeup techniques! I try to master the winged look but it’s so much harder than it seems! I love the concept of “I’m not wearing makeup, but I am” – it’s neutral and so natural!

I love the ‘I’m not wearing any make-up’ but it seems to take me ages to achieve this look!

I love a winged eyeliner look. I usually associate this with night out looks, never really wear it in the day. But having it with a little bit of blush and some lippy sounds cute.

I live for winged liner, so I’m glad I can stay on trend! Less eyeshadow will be more comfortable for summertime, too. I’ve yet to master the barefaced look, but I’ll give some of your tips antry!

Great to see a post from Mia, I’ll certainly be checking out her blog once I’ve finished commenting here! I must say that the “no makeup makeup look” is one that I wear year round, as I love subtle tones and barely-there eyeliner. I really need to invest in a lip stain! Fab post!

I didn’t realize that I’ve been using the “wing it” look all year around. LOL primarily because I’m always rushing into work. Quick eyeliner, rosy cheeks and a lip tint is all I need in the morning.

Great tips! I always find myself going slightly lighter with makeup during summer anyway, so at least now I know it’s on trend 🙂

  28. June 12, 2017 / 4:50 pm

I love the ‘last night’s remains’ look, trying to rock a more subtle version for work using a brown liner instead. Works a treat!

I am all for the natural look. That’s basically what I do. I have eyeliner, blush, and sometimes lip gloss. That’s about it!

  30. June 12, 2017 / 10:59 pm

I honestly wish I had more experience with make-up! Though I wouldn’t wear it every day, I’m one of the only males in theatre who doesn’t have a good handle on make-up techniques. Enjoyed reading your thoughts and tips!

  31. June 13, 2017 / 1:40 am

The natural look is much more elegant although I do love the idea of a bright lip! I enjoy the switch to bright vibrant summer lip colors. This wing liner is so beautifully done, simple and elegant.

  32. June 13, 2017 / 3:38 am

I so need to work on my winged liner. Thanks for the tips.

  40. June 14, 2017 / 4:26 am

I can’t wing my liner for anything. If my life depended on it, I would be in a lot of trouble! Great tips though!
